Book of The Week – Legion

legion

So… It had been a long time since I posted anything. I apologize deeply, but almost all my time off work is taken by the writing of the Tales of Enycia.  Anyway, it is time for the Book of The Week and the masterpiece I present today is one book out of the Horus Heresy Series: Legion, from Dan Abnett.

Dan Abnett is to me what Justin Bieber is to a teenage girl. I almost worship him since I first laid eyes on the Malus Darkblade series, and he had never disappointed me once.  Every time I open a book written by Mr. Abnett I except my world to be rocked and my life to turn into nothing more than a list of chores needed to be dealt with before opening the book again. To be honest I did not thought he could surprise me anymore, after all how can one go over Incredible?

Well he did.

If I had to choose two words to describe how I felt when I finished and closed Legion, it would be Awesomely Incredible.  Dan Abnett brings to life one of the most secretive Legion, the Alpha Legion, for the first time in the fore since the beginning of the Horus Heresy.  The Alpha Legion operates totally differently than the others, more classic ones, and Dan Abnett did a masterful job to write differently as well.  Even if action is omnipresent as excepted of any book featuring armies of giants in ceramite armor, Mr. Abnett weave an atmosphere of deception and intrigue, only accentuated by the presence of the mysterious cabal and their envoy, the double-spy John Grammaticus.

I take pride in the fact that I’ve read every single one of the Horus Heresy novels, and believe me when I say there is not one other similar to Legion.  The twists and turns would put the scenarist of the drama Lost to shame, and the battle scenes remind us that the Alpha Legion, even if more strategic than many others, is still a force to be feared.

Whether you’re looking for a book with mind-shaking plot twists or an action-packed novel following the expansion of the Imperium of Man before as it rips apart from the inside, Legion is the book for you.

Once you’re done, feel free to ask me about every other title by this Primarch of an author.
